The ferry was originally installed with MTU Series 60 engines rated at 552kW @ 2300 rpm with 1.74:1 reduction gearboxes. After installing the YANMAR 6HY engines, with deeper reduction gearboxes, the ferry now has improved performance in acceleration, cruising speed and low speed maneuverability with greatly improved fuel economy.  The three reasons why the operator selected the YANMAR 6HY engine are; reliability, mechanical fuel injection for simplicity, and fuel savings, which the operator states he got all three and he could not be happier with his decision to go with YANMAR!
